• Apache Pivot RIA Platform Leaves the ASF Incubator

The Apache Software Foundation announced that Apache Pivot has been promoted from the Incubator as a new Top-Level Project with the release of Apache Pivot 1.4. The Apache Pivot project warranted enough merit and community support to be promoted from the Incubator to a Top-Level Project.

Apache Pivot is a platform for building rich Internet applications and is based in the Java programming language. Pivot is similar to other RIA’s such as Adobe Flex, Microsoft Silverlight or Sun’s JavaFX.

Apache Pivot is developed using a combination of Java and XML and is targeted to Front End Engineers who want to go beyond the capabilities of HTML, CSS, and Javascript for richer graphical user interfaces in the browser, as well as on the desktop. Pivot began as a research and development project at VMware in 2007 and was introduced to the Apache Incubator in 2009.

Pivot is available for download at http://pivot.apache.org/

Demos of Pivot’s capabilities can bee seen here http://pivot.apache.org/demos/ (Requires Java)
